MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

       passed the ETS ParaPro Assessment Test

8          Take notes and provide data for supervisors
7.         Provide after school interpreting for students, as needed

TERMS:

7  hours/day plus after school interpreting, as scheduled
180 day contract

Position located in Marin County north of San Francisco in a public school setting for 4 hours per day Monday-Friday
during the 2009-10 school year with a child who primarily uses SEE or PSE.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • certified by the Registry for the Deaf (RID) or Level 4 EIPA or ESSE.
  • previous interpreting experience with aurally exceptional individuals and/or groups preferably in an educational
    setting
  • knowledge of various sign language systems,(particularly SEE), finger spelling and gestures
  • knowledge of proper English usage, grammar and punctuation
  • awareness of Deaf culture, basic personal/social problems and learning disabilities associated with deaf persons
  • awareness of ethical responsibilities of interpreters within the educational setting
  • valid California Driver's License and ability to provide own transportation
  • ability to meet required background check including finger print clearance and TB testing

DUTIES:

  • Interpret spoken word into a sign language system to facilitate instruction and communication between student(s)
and teacher(s), and between student(s) and peers.
  • Voice deaf student's communication (sign language) into English in accordance with the needs of the assignment.
  • Under certificated teacher's direction, support and follow goals outlined in student's IEP.
  • When not interpreting, tutor and assist deaf students individually or in groups in academic or elective subjects at
the direction of the regular classroom teacher.

Sign Language Interpreter needed to perform interpreting and reverse interpreting of classroom lectures, general
classroom instruction, student responses, peer to peer classroom communication, as well as non-classroom and
extracurricular event communications for mainstreamed high school deaf student using "Signing Exact English" (S.E.E.).

Requirements:
  • Minimum of 5 years experience interpreting in S.E.E. or S.E.E. Certification. Certification must be from the Registry
